Justen’s Experience

With over 15 years of experience in patent law, Justen specializes in helping clients navigate the complexities of intellectual property across a wide range of cutting-edge technologies. His experience spans telecommunications, nuclear power systems, autonomous vehicles, medical devices, networking systems, media content providers, memory devices, displays, and alternative energy power systems.

In his current role, Justen partners with clients to support a wide range of IP services. Oftentimes this includes a focus on preparing and prosecuting patent applications, crafting responses to office actions, drafting appeal briefs, and handling broadening and narrowing reissue applications. Justen is adept at managing divisional and continuation applications for patent families and has a proven track record in prosecuting international applications. He also provides strategic counseling on licensing and intellectual property litigation matters, always striving to deliver tailored, impactful solutions that align with each client’s goals.

Before transitioning to patent law, Justen worked as a nuclear engineer at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, gaining invaluable insights into highly technical systems and processes. His experience also includes system validation of servers and workstations and contributions to multiple research teams focused on VLSI and signal processing. These roles have shaped his ability to deeply understand complex technologies, an essential foundation for his current practice in intellectual property.
