  • Richard has been with Dority & Manning since 1985 and is a Principal of the firm, after beginning a career in intellectual property law in 1979.
  • He has worked with technologies such as electrical, electro-mechanical and mechanical art areas including electrical systems, electronics, software and medical fields.
  • Richard has been involved in all phases of litigation and counseling for patent, trademark and copyright matters including offensive and defensive positions, and including additional counseling areas such as licensing, negotiating, consultant and employee agreements, trade secret protection, and opinions, such as drafting infringement/non-infringement opinions, drafting validity analysis of patents, and rendering patentability opinions. Richard has extensive trademark experience, including involvement with over 800 registration matters and over 150 TTAB matters before the USPTO.
  • Prior to coming to Dority & Manning, Richard was an Examiner in the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in Industrial Electronics (involved specifically in electronic motor controls, battery charging systems, photocopying machinery, and electronic switches). He was also an associate attorney for electrical and other prosecution matters, for U.S. and foreign clients, at a large IP boutique firm in Washington, D.C.
